Katie Iten, 15, says she began mushing as a baby riding in “mom’s parkie.” That was their only way of traveling. She says she had her own sled when she was two. Katie says, “I am part Italian, part Norwegian and part German. We lived in Ambler and then Kobuk before we moved across Kobuk Lake from Kotzebue.” She is a ninth grader in the Alyeska Correspondance School and participates in cross-country and battle of the books. She also enjoys horseback riding, swimming in the summer, hunting, fishing, snowball fighting and skiing. After high school, she plans to go to college and says “YES”, she definitely will continue mushing.
