Charmayne Morrison, 17, began mushing as an 8th grade project in her Advanced Studies Class and was hooked! This will be her first Jr. Iditarod but she will run the Jr. Race to the Sky and the Eagle Cap Extreme before coming to Alaska. A junior at Polson High, Charmayne will actually graduate this year. A member of the Key Club and the National Honor Society, she also enjoys riding horses, hunting, fishing, hiking and exploring the outdoors. After graduation, she plans to run the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest and then go to college for biology or ecology. She says she will continue mushing. Charmayne says, ” I am super proud and honored to be representing Montana in the 2018 Jr. Iditarod. As the only musher in my family, mine was/is the ‘oddball’ sport but my parents support the adventure. I bred and raised mosts of the dogs in my kennel and am looking forward to seeing all my/our hard work pay off. The dogs and I have a special bond that can only be built from the first moment they open their eyes. I think this has made us a better team and overall more prepared for any trail conditions that we may encounter. Though most of my team is young and inexperienced race-wise, I’m glad we gt to learn and have fun on the trail together while also living our adventure.”
