Biography
Bailey Schaeffer, 17, an Inupiaq, was raised at Ivig, Alaska, 30 miles outside of Kotzebue in a primarily subsistance lifestyle. She says she started mushing “before she was born” because her family mushed dogs. She is a senior at Mat Su Central. She says she enjoys running, hiking and skiing. She plans to go to college after graduation and says “maybe” she’ll continue mushing.
