Aiyana Ferraro, 14, started mushing about five years ago and says she has wanted to be a musher since she was three years old and watched Balto. She has been racing since she was 13 and this year placed 10th in the Flathead Sled Dog Days and third in the Darby Dog Derby. She attends Corvallis Middle School and participates in math counts and track. She also enjoys drawing, agility and obedience with her Aussie/Border Collie mix, running and computer graphics. She says she is the only one in her family who mushes. “I was the youngest person ever to run the 100 mile Jr. Race to the Sky. Next year I plan on running the Jr. Iditarod, the Wyoming Stage Stop, Jr. Race to the Sky and many other races. After high school, Aiyana wants to move to Alaska or Wyoming and take veterinarian and astronomy classes in college and continue running her sled dogs.
