Biography
Lacey Hart, 17, is a home schooled senior in high school. She explains, “When I was eight, our elementary school did the Iditaread. Each kid had to read page for mile against a musher on the Iditarod. After the program, I was hooked on dogs! Six months later we got two tour teams, 17 dogs. We literally went from two dogs to 19 overnight. Since then, I have bought and bred dogs. The result is that most of the dogs on my team are dogs I have raised from pups and trained myself.” Lacey ran the Jr. Iditarod in 2009 and placed 15th and also won the Humanitarian Award. She says she has no concrete plans for after high school but, “Absolutely! You’ll be seeing me on the tail for many years to come!” Lacey plans to do her qualifiers next year and run the Iditarod the following year. She is also interested in dog agility and likes reading, writing, hiking and scuba diving.
