Biography

Richelle Horner, 14, says she has lived in Alaska all her life but just moved to Nome seven years ago. She began mushing four years ago. She said, “When I first saw the Iditarod finish, I wanted to be a dog musher.” An eighth grade student at Nome-Beltz Jr. High School, she participates in volleyball, basketball, cross-country and band. She is also interested in hockey, snow machining, snowboarding and is a Girl Scout. She plans to go to college when she finishes high school and says she will continue mushing. “I have two younger brothers, one older sister, and one younger sister. I have a small kennel about a mile away from my house. My family is very supportive of me.”
