Tessa King, 17, says she’s been mushing since she could remember, but the first time she raced was in 2003 when she ran both the Jr. Quest and the Jr. Iditarod. Tessa’s sister, Cali, won the 2002 Jr. Iditarod and finished the 2003 Iditarod. Their dad, Jeff, is a three time Iditarod champion. They have another sister, Ellen, 12, who is also involved in dog mushing. They live in Denali National Park on the edge of Goose Lake. They own over 80 Alaskan Huskies , three border collies and a golden retriever. They also have a summer tour business and their mom owns an art gallery. Tessa is a senior at Tri-Valley School where she participates in leadership, band, choir, soccer, volleyball, dance and basketball. She plans to go to college and says she’ll continue mushing “off and on.”
