Biography

Rachel Cockman, 14, says she’s been mushing her entire life because “my parents were mushers for years.” This will be her fist Jr. Iditarod, however, she has run the Willow Jr. 100 in 2015 and 2016. She is proud of the fact that she has raised all her dogs from puppies, so says “I built my team from scratch.” An 8th grade student at Tri Valley School, Rachel participates in basketball, volley ball, track and cross country. She lists her hobbies as ball handling being with friends and hair styling. After graduation, Rachel plans to go to Duke University to play basketball and become a nurse. She doesn’t plan to continue mushing after high school.
