Meredith Mapes

Wasilla, AK, USA

Meredith will soon be 16 and has been running the Jr. Iditarod since she turned 14, finishing 14th in her first Jr. Iditarod and 8th the second time. “I got my first sled dogs in 2006 and after that it just kinda snowballed.” She began mushing through Girl Scouts where she began running 1-dog events at the Aurora Dog Mushers Club. A junior at Wasilla High School, Meredith participates in the Battle of the Books and soccer. She says her hobbies other than mushing are reading, computers, photography, soccer and running. After high school, she plans to do her pre-vet at UAF and then go to vet school and she does plan to continue mushing.
